Fifteen to twenty years underground. That's how long the Arroqueño agave waits before it's ready.
While most mezcal agaves reach maturity in 6-8 years, Arroqueño takes nearly two decades — quietly storing energy, sugar, and character in the highlands of San Miguel Atlapulco, Puebla. It's one of the rarest agaves used in mezcal production today, and one of the hardest to work with.
That patience is exactly what draws Nazario Salas Rosas to it. A fourth-generation mezcalero, Nazario learned this craft the way it's always been passed down in Puebla — not from a manual, but from his father, and his father before him. Every piña he harvests, roasts, and distills carries that lineage.
What to Expect in the Glass
Expect an aromatic mezcal — floral and smoky on the nose, with a palate that shifts from anise and brown sugar to something almost briny, followed by soft notes of mint and lavender on the finish. It's complex in a way that rewards sipping slowly, neat, in a copita — no need to rush it.
Why This Bottle Matters
Arroqueño is disappearing. As demand for mezcal grows, fewer producers are willing to wait two decades for a harvest. Every bottle from Nazario represents both a rare agave and a rare commitment to doing it the old way. This 375mL format is ideal for trying something this special without committing to a full bottle — perfect for the collector, the curious first-timer, or anyone building out a home mezcal tasting flight.
Sip neat. Share slowly. Save the mixers for something else.
